Ghana to Ban Skin Bleaching/Lightening products from August 2016.
Great News!! I am happy that the Ghana Food and Drug Authority (FDA) have taken the bold step like Ivory Coast did a few months ago to ban them. Notably products that contain hydroquinone in accordance with a directive from the Ghana Standard Authority (GSA). When i started the I Love my Natural Skintone Say No to Skin bleaching campaign about 2 years ago in Ghana, one of the main aims was to get these often harmful products to banned. It was not easy and there were some insults and abuse thrown at me and those of us involved in championing this cause. It did not stop or deter us and I thank God for seeing us through. There are so many people who have been of tremendous support and encouragement on this journey. Two influential men that were already campaigning this cause for years beforehand. Firstly the Former Director General of Ghana Health Service, Professor Agyeman Badu Akosa. His work and research on skin bleaching in Ghana was one of the main catalysts and has worked for many years on the ban coming into affect. Also Dr Edmund Delle, who has been vocal for decades on the need to ban #skinbleaching products. There are of course many other people who have been instrumental and their hard work has not been in vain.
To @paulinaoduro @iamhamamatmontia @iamamamcbrown @rodneyquarcoo @gikuts @kafuidey and the many many more. God bless you. We added our little voices to effect a big change. I pray more and more African countries follow with banning them. ???????✨
