Ghanaian Songwriters Cry For Recognition

Akwaboah who is noted for penning hit songs such as Daakeda by Becca, Best In Me performed by Efya and Nsohhw3 by DSP Kofi Sarpong in an interview with NY DJ over the weekend on the Kapital Entertainment Unplugged Show disclosed it hurts when songwriters are not given their due by artists and the entire industry unlike other established countries where systems are in place to make sure the songwriter is well attended to and given the necessary returns.

Elaborating on what he meant by “their due”, Akwaboah explained contrary to other jurisdictions, credit is given to songwriters during performances, interviews , inscriptions at the back of CD covers and even receive royalties from their works but same cannot be said in Ghana.

This comes up weeks after Ghanaian dancehall act and songwriter Linguakat accused Kaaki bitterly of never appreciating his hard work.

Speaking on the future of songwriters in Ghana, Akwaboah was optimistic and advised songwriters to get their facts right and pen down contracts to avoid future tussles with artists.
