Before going to bed yesterday, the IMANI boss unveiled a reportage from JoyNews that indicated how 45% of the Ghanaian populace are extremely poor according to a research from the Ghana Statistical Service.
The IMANI boss wrote;
Finally, retiring to bed on a worrying note. On Joy News TV this evening, “over 45% of Ghana’s population extremely poor” from a multidimensional poverty index. Thought it was a third of the population. I have always maintained we need not compartmentalise poverty so this statistic is scary. Not cool
This statistic from the Statistical Service is not due to covid…Just the product of pure political sloganeering of ‘1dis-1dat’ ‘free dis- free dat’ under NPP and now we hearing more ‘free dis-free dat’ with potentially the next NDC govt. We need to do more beyond sharing freebies..always remember, as my friend Larry Read says, “Government has nothing to give anybody except what it first takes from somebody, and a government that’s big enough to give you everything you want is big enough to take away everything you’ve got.”. Think about these things and demand more productivity. Good night, finally.
