Gov’t has no right to form a Creative Council – Ekow Micah

The president of the Music Council of Ghana, Ekow Micah has declared that the Ministry of Tourism Culture and Creative Arts has no right to form a Creative Council for the creative arts industry.

According to Micah, any attempt to establish a council will end up undermining the existence of the already established council, the Music Council of Ghana (MCG).

Speaking in an interview with Hitz FM, he said “I think what the Ministry is trying to do now is to impose the Council on the stakeholders in the creative industry.”

The Music Council of Ghana president said he doesn’t see why the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) is not part of the existing council. This, he believes should be what the government needs to be concerned about.

He wondered why government is forming organisation to supersede an existing organisation, adding “I believe some appointees in this government are shifting from democracy to dictatorship.”

Meanwhile, the president of MUSIGA, Bice Osei Kuffor (Obour) says his association is part of the International Music Council (IMC) and not part of the Music Council of Ghana.

He expressed concerns about the legal framework that supported the existence of the council as a corporate entity.

Obour noted that, until the council produces documents which govern its activities such as a constitution, MUSIGA cannot be a member of it.

The International Music Council is considered the world’s leading membership for musicians based on professional organisation dedicated to the promotion of the value of music of all people.
