Have Organizers of RTP Awards Been Fair to Presenters Outside Accra?

The maiden edition in 2011 saw twenty-six personalities and eight CEOs acknowledged for their contributions towards creating a vibrant media culture in Ghana; from the patronage of Big Events, it was christened the Radio & Television Personality Awards.

The goal of the awards is to recognize outstanding media personalities across Ghana who have shown exemplary leadership towards building a vision of the future which encourages innovativeness and sustainability of media programmes and its presentations.

When the postponement of the much publicized second edition of the awards was announced, many fans frowned; but it was for a just course – the President of the country had passed away. The event was scheduled to take place at the main hall of the Accra International Conference Center on Saturday July 28, 2012, but as it stands, we have to wait for organizers to come out with the new date.

RPT awards as it is fondly called, is meant to draw attention to our radio and television personalities in celebrating their accomplishments; yet eyebrows have risen to the fact that the awards seems to ‘glorify’ mostly Accra based; what about the other nine regions in Ghana? Don’t they deserve equal bite of the cake?

It is a known fact that the Ashanti Region is more populated, so wouldn’t it be fair to also nominate more presenters from there and other regions for a free and fair nomination? Thus, the questions lingers, who conducted the survey? What criteria did they use in the polls? Wouldn’t it will be okay to do an effective research before hitting the public with names?…because certain names across Ghana are obviously missing.

Don’t we think it will be beautiful to see all our Presenters gather together from all over Ghana clad in their different attires with hope beaming on their faces knowing that their regions will smile and in turn it will spur their followership?

Organizers can do it right for once.
