Here’s How Bhimnation, Shatta Movement And Sarknation Have Changed Ghana Music Industry.
As a modern musician, one of the best possessions to boast about is the fan base or supporters at one’s disposal. Even though they always want to show off their bank account balance, enviable mansions, latest cars and so forth, the number of fans they have on various social media platforms and in real life is also paramount.
How do we measure fan base? Apart from checking number of followers on Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram and other avenues, the number of attendants at concerts or shows also count a lot.
In Ghana, most entertainment critics and edutainment lovers agree to the fact that the ‘3S’ are our biggest artistes for almost two decades now. ‘The Three S’ include Michael Owusu Addo aka Sarkodie, Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr aka Shatta Wale and Efo Livingstone aka Stonebwoy or 1GAD.
The aforementioned artistes have really done well with their crafts, confidence, versatility and other equally relevant skills as they’ve propelled Ghana’s musical success story to another milestone.
One trick these musicians have employed to stay relevant over the years is ‘clash or industry beef’. Celebrity clash which has been tagged as ‘beefs’ in the Ghanaian music circles may not be disappearing anytime soon.
The most intriguing and fiercest beef ever was purportedly recorded between Michael Owusu Addo aka Sarkodie and Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr. aka Shatta Wale. The duo even went to the extent of releasing harsh diss tracks for each other whilst their respective fans pounced on each other via varied social media posts. This and other practicable strategies from these guys helped the Ghana Music Industry a lot!
