The rapid spread of Sexually Transmitted Diseases is quite alarming in this current world that we find ourselves.
To this effect, the Ghana AIDS Commission says the number of persons who are contracting HIV infections in Ghana is quite astonishing.
In a timely released statement to the populace to all and sundry, ahead of World AIDS Day today (December 1, 2019), the Ghana AIDS Commission has revealed that a staggering 19,931 new HIV infections occurred in Ghana last year – 2018.
“According to them, to have a vivid breakdown of the 19,931, 16,614 were adults between 15-49 years whilst 3,317 were children ages 0-14years”.
For further breakdown – 334,717 people living with the virus in Ghana might have acquired it through the major causes of HIV infection, which include rough sexual behavioural patterns such as rampant unprotected sex, prolonged and untreated sexually transmitted infections, careless use of unsterilized sharp instruments for hard drugs and mother to child transmission which normally occur during pregnancy, delivery or breastfeeding the new child.
