Hon. Joe Ghartey Wins The Essikadu Ketan Constituency Again
Member of Parliament for the Essikadu Ketan Constituency of the Western region, Joe Ghartey, has defeated his opponent in the 2020 polls to maintain his seat.
Electoral results collated from a total of 152 polling stations out of 154, has Joe Ghartey leading with 26,407 votes, representing 52.2 percent.
Though two (2) polling stations are yet to be declared, the projections are largely in favor of the incumbent.
The Railway Minister initially saw the contest to be an easy one, but the election day happenings proved otherwise. When the results started trickling in, it proved that Dr. Grace Ayensu Danquah, his contender from the NDC, was not an easy pushover. At a point, her followers thought that she had even won the election.
The NDC parliamentary candidate has threatened to challenge the outcome of the polls in court.
The collation center last night at 10 pm was besieged by some party footsoldiers of the NDC, as they obstructed returning officers who were due to submit their ballot boxes with the result sheets.
It took some heavy joint military and police personnel to disperse them to allow the process to continue undisrupted.
