Reggie Rockstone originator of Hiplife was interviewed today about VVIP’s album being selected to the album of the year category and how he felt about it. He expressed his excitement about being nominated for that category because they worked hard to get to this level. He acknowledged the fact that most people didn’t expect them to shoot up this fast after the break away of Promzy from VIP and him joining the group.
He was also asked about the controversies surrounding the selection of their song Selfie as a hip life song and he replied that it is not hip life but hip Pop or anything else. He agreed that others would consider it as an afro pop but that genre is more of Nigerian that’s why he filed it under hip pop. He stated that it is not in any way a hip life song and if the board was having difficulties categorizing the song they should have consulted him.Reggie said “”IT’S EMBARRASSING FOR SOMEONE TO TELL ME WHAT HIP LIFE IS.NO BODY CAN EDUCATE ME ON HIP LIFE.SELFIE IS NOT A HIP LIFE SONG AND IF YOU DONT CALL SELFIE HIP HOP THEN DONT CALL IT HIP LIFE.”
The Hiplife granpa explained that he is the originator of hip life so he knows a song that is hip life and no one dispute him. He also said what he says stand when it comes to hip life music in the music industry. He is not dead so no one should try to change his concept as far he is still alive he will tell them exactly what defines Hip life. He requested that Chatter house gets him a cake because the event will be held on his birthday but refused to mention his age.
He also said that if the best hip life song award is given to their group they would take it but they will give a speech to that effect about the genre of the song. He also said they are not pushing themselves in that category but are working on the other categories.
