I deserved all my nominations — Samini

imagesIf anyone thought that self-acclaimed Dancehall King, Samini, was going to be upset because  prior to the 16th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, some people said that he didn’t deserve to be in the Artiste of the Year category, then they are getting it all wrong.

In an interview with Showbiz on Monday, the multiple award-winning artiste said people are entitled to their opinions and he respects that, “people have opinions but for anybody to suggest that Iskoki is not a big song is not the truth because it is everywhere, if there is a big party anywhere, you will hear Iskoki and everyone can attest to that.’’

When asked if he was disappointed at not winning the Artiste of the Year award this year, Samini said he was not in the least disappointed, “ not at all, to be very honest and fair, I was satisfied with a nomination because it is a way of recognising my good work. I believe next year will be a bigger year in terms of awards because I will have a lot of releases this year,’’ he said.

Talking of releases, Samini intends to release his sixth album, Breaking News this year. “The album release was projected for April but there was a delay, a few singles have been lined up for release off the album. I know people will be contemplating what Breaking News is all about and I will leave them to do that till its release,’’ Samini said.

According to Samini, he did lots of collaborations on the upcoming album especially with his Nigerian colleagues in the persons of Tiwa Savage, Ice Prince and Phyno. He said he did that on purpose as his way of getting back into that market. “ The whole idea is to re-ignite my Nigerian fan base and you will also agree with me that they have a huge market out there and I intend to tap into that.’’

When Breaking News eventually comes out, it won’t be about only Nigerians when it comes to collaborations, Samini will also collaborate with others from South Africa and outside Africa to give the album a multi-national touch.

Samini may be busy doing music but his Sakaman Junction based restaurant,  Dancestardom, is also doing great. This is what he had to say about it, ‘’Dancestardom is doing great, it’s getting bigger and bigger and has the potential of getting even bigger and spreading across the country  without me having to use my own resources, it is doing wonderful on its own.’
