I have suspended my music career – A Plus

The outspoken and controversial Musician Kwame Asare Obeng popularly known as APLUS says he has suspended the career that put him in the limelight.

He said although music gave him a platform and a sense of direction in his life while growing up after trying all sorts of businesses but to no avail, he still feels he needs to resurrect other potentials within him. He plans somehow to continue to stay in the showbiz.

A-PLUS disclosed this during an interview on Afisem, a segment on Badwam a morning show on Adom channel on Multi TV on July 1.

The segment on Badwan is cut out to help people resolve challenging life pressures and also to reveal the real person away from the cameras and the blitz and its aimed at encouraging others.

A-Plus has been singing and rapping about politics in Ghana for a number of years, coming on the Ghanaian music scene with a bang on the back of his interesting song called “Mesuro mpo na merekeka yi o”.

The song, Freedom of Speech I, used Dr. Ephraim Amu’s “Yen ara asase ni chorus” and talked about speaking out about the good and the bad of government. Since then, he has released various songs on Ghana’s political terrain, mostly criticizing government, opposition parties.

Freedom of Speech II – Yese humm (2003) – spoke about corruption, injustice and hardships in the country and proclaimed that the people were waiting for elections to show their powers. Some of his other songs are Agye gon (released after the 2004 election), Mirror Mirror, Zilo, etc.

Kwame Asare Obeng added that he regrets ever going into the Music profession explaining that most people do not respect musicians as they are always seen as school dropouts. Some parents also disapproves of their children associating with musicians.

He said although President John Evans Atta Mills can be described as a perfect gentleman, his pronouncements do not convince him to either sing or vote for him, adding that his support for Nana Addo is strictly based on principles and not based on tribal lines.
