In-service teachers vehemently refuse payment for license.
There is an ongoing fracas between the NTC and “teacher unions” in the country with regards to licensing in the teaching profession.
The National Teaching Council is mandated by the Education Act 2008 (Act 778), section 9 to improve professional standing and status of teachers and to license and register teachers in Ghana. As part of their mandate, teachers who are not already in the system were asked to write licensure exams last year and this year as well.
Since all teachers in the country should be licensed, the authorities of NTC have devised a strategic formality to license in-service teachers without them writing exams. This modality is for in-service teachers to pay Gh¢200.00 for automatic licensing.
After this revelation was made by the NTC, a lot of in-service teachers have expressed their unwillingness to pay even a dime for the said license on all social media platforms.
Upon all these happenings, officials of ministry of education and Ghana Education Service are yet to make their stance known.
