Indian High Commission to promote Ghana-Indian movie collaboration

The Indian High Commissioner to Ghana, Mr Rajinder Bhagat has called for Ghana-India collaboration in the film industry, stating his outfit’s readiness to promote that it in the country.

Speaking in Accra to launch the third Indian Film Festival in Ghana at the Silverbird Cinema, the High Commissioner said, the India film industry, Bollywood, had grown over the years to become the largest movie producer globally.

He said the India film industry was prepared to collaborate with Ghallywood in Ghana and Nollywood in Nigeria to produce quality world class movies for movie fans and lovers across the world. Globally about 3.6 billion people watch Indian movies.

The Indian Film Festival was created three years ago in Ghana to form part of the celebration of the Republic Day of India, which falls on January 26th and to celebrate India and strengthen the bond between the two countries.

Global Media Alliance, the 2011 CIMG (Chartered Institute of Ghana) media organization in Ghana, and Silverbird Cinema in Accra are partnering the India High Commission to treat the public to free screenings of variety of Indian Movies from the 25th to 31st January of 2013.

“GMA is committed to activating its brand promise of becoming a world class entertainment hub in Ghana and in Africa, ready to offer all in one media and entertainment to people,” Mrs Rosemond Aryeetey, Head of Communications, Global Media Alliance (GMA) said at the launch.

She said GMA Ghana has it all when it comes to entertainment and media related activities in the country and was well positioned to become one of the top internationally recognized, integrated media, entertainment media organisation.

Selections of some of the top movies being screened at the Silverbird include “Making of Mahatma”, a film on the journey of Mahatma Gandhi, from Britain to South Africa and India, and events that led to him heading a revolution to become the father of the nation, “Mother India”, an epic saga of the sufferings of poor peasants in India represented by a poverty-stricken woman who raises her sons through many trials and tribulations without compromising her own moral code in spite of her struggles.

Others showing from Bollywood, one the world’s biggest movie industry include Baghban, Nehru, Sangam, Sardar Patel, Mr. India, Ghulam, Swaraj, Yaadon Ki Baarat, Sarfarosh, and Maine Pyar Kiya. Two movies will be shown each day during the period.

Commenting of the movie selections Mr. Kwaku Yankson Marketing Manager of Silverbird said: “This year is even bigger, with specially selected top rated films in India, written, produced and starring leading actors from Bollywood. It is going to be an exciting week for the public and Indian movie lovers in particular”.
