Informed Teachers’ Network Senior Researcher Explains Why Basic Schools Need Immediate Research Fund
In Ghana, education has been tipped to be one of the most essential human commodities that propels everyone to a successful future. With the ability to read, comprehend and write, every citizen seems equal to those at the higher caste system who feel that the system belongs to only those who fall within the affluent category. In order to make education successful, funding must be adequate and promptly disbursed. A union which has Ghana’s education at heart has taken to their social media handle to explain why Basic Schools need Research Funds just like the various Universities and Colleges have to support their lecturers.
The post read;
“GES, MoE must setup a research fund for basic school teachers and or pay us research allowance. We have been trained to conduct at least Action Research — We didn’t acquire these skills for fun. We need funding to put it to use. We also have a lot to contribute educational policies and reforms that affects us directly. We shouldn’t just be reduced to consumers. Moreover, we research to get contents everyday to teach. That is not something we should be using our personal data for. We have an employer”.
This is actually a good initiative if it is really given the necessary attention by the authorities in charge of Ghana Education Service, Ministry of Education and all other stakeholders which has education at heart.
