Is Social Status Dividing Us Now More Than Religion Or Politics?

The legendary Lucky Dube once said, “we were separated by our race back then but now we are divided by our flags”. When the talented root man said this, many readings were made into the lyrical content of the said track (was it something about different colours one people or what?)…

The late reggae grandpa – Lucky Dube was probably showing us how giant nations were going to dictate to the smaller ones forever like it is ongoing now. This ideology has been in existence for a while. If not for anything at all, we are aware of the Security Council within the United Nations Organization where the likes of France, United States of America, China, Britain and Russia (did I get them right…lol) are seen as those with a certain “veto power” over all other nations of the world. I think one African country should be thrown into that gap for the black representative somehow. I don’t care whether I am making sense here or not but it sounds pretty fair in my tiny brain.

Lemme go back to the purpose of this write up! All over the world, whilst we thought religious movement and political affiliations were dividing us in recent times, it seems one factor is silently doing quite well! That same factor existed all over the place sometime back and we thought it had outlived its relevance but it’s still in full operation.

In plain language, I am just talking about the wild division of our world based on the financial muscles of one individual over the other! Taking into consideration of the social status of a person (the level of education, the car one drives, attires worn, type of phones used and so on) — which is indeed induced by the money one has and other pressing issue like affluence, it is seen as the surest trend in recent times whereby persons are classified!

In my candid opinion, there is no middle way here since it is just about the rich and the poor or the well to do and the broke. So, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, etc as religious sects aren’t responsible for our classifications now just like political affiliations used to. It is now about the depth of one’s pocket!

Undoubtedly, this is the new trend on which humans are categorised or divided and this has taken over from the other pioneers that used to set humans apart (religion and politics).
