Jamie Vardy Beats Drogba’s Record As Oldest EPL Player To Win Golden Boot

The former England and current Leicester City centre forward Jamie Vardy has become the oldest player to win the Premier League Golden Boot after scoring 23 goals to finish the 2019/20 season.

Upon the halting of football due to the Novel Coronavirus pandemic for a while, the 33-year-old ended up a goal clear of Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Southampton striker Danny Ings, both on 22. Yesterday was yet another memorable moment for the prolific striker even though he failed to score on the final day as Leicester lost 2-0 to Manchester United to miss out on a Champions League dream.

Jamie Vardy has officially become the ninth English player to win or share the Golden Boot as Liverpool duo – Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah and Arsenal’s Aubameyang shared it with 22 each last season.

Leicester manager, Brendan Rodgers had this to say;

“It’s a wonderful individual achievement. We wouldn’t be where we are without his quality and goals.

He’s a joy to work with, has a great mentality and has such quality. It’s a huge accolade and we’re all delighted for him.”

Jamie Vardy scored more in 2015-16, Leicester’s surprised title-winning season with 24 goals but lost the Golden Boot award to Harry Kane who banged 25 goals.
