Kaaki Under Pressure To Quit Secular Music

668950983_690113The history of Ragga Dancehall artiste Kaaki, known in real life as Grace Kaaki Ocansey, is not one hidden in secrecy especially in the entertainment industry.

She was raised by the Royal House Chapel aka “Ahenfie” in Accra when she was part of the contestants who were vying for the Stars of the future reality show title some years back.

It can be noted that, even though Kaaki did not come up tops in the reality show, the church headed by their spiritual leader Rev. Sam Korankye Ankrah urged members of the church to support Kaaki by voting for her when she needed their votes more to win the competition.

Fortunately or unfortunately for the “toffee pon tongue” artiste, that little fame and attention she grabbed, has been put to good use by herself and her able management team headed by Jay Master Jay. Master Jay enjoys pulling the strings of the artiste behind the screens but Sadique, blonde-haired television presenter of Viasat 1’s 30 minutes who happens to be her (Kaakie’s) publicist and manager takes care of the day-to-day running of the artiste, her activities and her promotions.

Over the past weeks, snippets of information had been trickling through some informants from Royal House Chapel church that the leadership is not too enthused about the fact that Kaakie who happens to be a staunch member the Church’s choir group seems to be going astray because of his love for ragga dancehall music.

Due to this, there had been constant pressure from the leadership of the church for Kaakie to disown that genre of music. When these complaints came to her first to redraw from the secular world, Kaaki declined. Due to this, she was not given the chance to sing at church despite her stength as a senior choir member.

After some months of constant hit releases form her manager Jay Master Jay, Kaaki was not considering leaving the dancehall microphones at some programmes to perform her hit songs, so she decided to abandon the church microphones and that added to her woes as a young female celebrity in our music industry.

For the past two weeks, Kaaki has been performing at church to the admiration of the church elders and congregation alike and this is a clear sign that the artiste is now on good terms with the philosophy of ignoring all the worldly activities of dancehall and ragga music thing and now paying attention to the calling of God, her first love.

808169904_277285To set the records straight, Flex newspaper spoke to some insiders of Royal House Chapel and the informant gave us this information anonymously.

“I have been with the church for a good number of years and therefore I also believe in the beliefs of the church. The leaders are very supportive when it comes to career related issues of the church members but in the case of Kaaki, they were not happy about her involvement in this Dancehall reggae kind of stuff. I’m sure some church leaders have contacted her mum, for allowing her to be doing that kind of music yet to no avail. Last two weeks, Kaakie performed at church and that alone to me means an agreement has been reached between the church and herself. I am telling you that they really want her to quit that dancehall thing” our informant from Royal House Chapel told Flex newspaper on phone last Monday.

Again, Flex newspaper met Kaaki’s manager at the launch of Bass Reggae and Dancehall awards where this issue was raised for clarification and response. Kaakie herself was absent at the dancehall awards launch. Does it send any clues?

Though Sadique spoke shortly on the matter, his statement represents the position of her management. “We know this is some people’s attempt to sabotage Kaaki and what she is doing in the music industry. It is just unfortunate some people in the church think they are righteous and Kaaki is the only evil one. We don’t have much to say but we know one day all those people doing that will regret their actions. Our position is clear on this matter and we will speak at the right time when we have to” Sadique said in his response though he could not give us any straight answer as to whether Kaaki is quitting dancehall music for gospel music or not.

If Kaaki makes that U-turn to do gospel music, what it will mean is that she will be among the many secular artistes who have dropped their love for the world to do God’s work. In which ever ways, the music industry will still benefit big time!!!
