Kwabena Kwabena Raises GHc300,000 to support heart patients

imagesHighlife musician George Kwabena Adu, known on stage as Kwabena Kwabena, together with some friends, has raised about GHc300,000 to fund surgeries of some heart patients.

The award winning musician raised the amount at the second edition of his ‘Save A Life’ concert at the Adae Kese Hall of the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel Saturday night.

The ‘Save A Life’ concert is an initiative which seeks to raise funds to support the National Cardiothoracic Center of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

The centre keeps struggling with raising the needed funds to support underprivileged patients who are not able to meet the full costs of surgeries.

Through last year’s event, Kwabena Kwabena successfully funded surgeries for six heart patients. The first edition of the “Save A Life” concert came off at the State Banquet Hall in Accra held on 19th October 19, 2013.

Kwabena Kwabena, despite losing his father on November 13, still focused on raising funds at the second edition of the event and set a target of 20 patients as his goal.

After three hours of exciting performances and fund raising exercises, the concert yielded an amount of GHc300,000 which can pay for the surgeries for 10 patients.

Some of the well-known personalities who donated to support the initiative included Sammy Crabbe, Second Vice Chairman of the NPP (donated $16,000); dancehall artiste, Samini ($16,000); and Dr. Michael Abu Sakara Foster, 2014 Presidential candidate of the CPP ($8,000).

Although he did not attain his 20 patients target on the concert, Kwabena Kwabena told Myjoyonline.com in an interview that raising funds for 10 patients on the first night is a good start.

“It is the start of the campaign I should say so it’s quite impressive. When we started to raise funds for 20 kids on the first night we made half of it and that’s impressive,” he said.

According to him, “we are soliciting for funds all year round, that is from now until the next ‘Save A Life’ concert, so I believe in God that come next year October which will be the next concert we will have the remaining ten patients also saved.”

The talented singer disclosed that, apart from the concert, the general public can also support the initiative by texting ‘SAVE’ to 1962 or by visiting any Access Bank branch to also lend their support.

According to officials of the National Cardiothoracic Center, there are currently 150 children and 98 adults who are on the waiting list in need of support to undergo surgery.

Apart from Kwabena Kwabena, some of the artistes who performed at the event included Tagoe Sisters, Yaw Sarpong and Asomafo, Daughters of Glorious Jesus, Stella Seal, Pat Thomas, M.anifest, Becca, and Samini.

Renowned legal practitioner, Nana Asante Bediatuo also gave a thrilling performance at the event.
