Lil Win rides the waves once more

imagesActor Lil Win has slowly but steadily come back to claim the space he must have lost last May when his major stage performance at the Accra International Conference Centre was mired in controversy.

During his performance on the popular  Ghana Meets Naija show, Lil Win had introduced the subject of marijuana and before he could fully explain his intentions, producers of the show yanked him off the stage to avoid any complicity and embarassment.

Speaking with Showbiz last week, Lil Win said the incident almost ruined his career. “It took the intervention of my friends and family members to bring me back from the shock. Had it not been them, I don’t think I would have been able to pull myself together and come back from the shock”.

According to the 28-year-old actor, he avoided everyone and wept in his room for many days after the incident. Lil Win said that, he had close to five movies to shoot during that period but he had to put them on hold to deal with his rather emotional situation.

“Movie producers who had already paid me for my services became angry I was not picking their calls. I had to explain to the producers later that I had some pressing issues I needed to take care of.

“I will forever be grateful to my friends and family members  who consoled me to put the past behind me and move forward,” he said.

He said that since his return to business, he has been involved in a number of movie productions  such as For Girls, Mama Africa, Yéme Adom, Bronii Hiani, Mmaa Pé Awareé  and has also made several appearances on live stage including the Fetu Afahye in Cape Coast  and his recent tour in the U.S

Asked what has kept him going in his career, Lil Win who is now also into music, said he learns a lot from others. “I watch foreign and Nigerian comedies to stay on top of my game.

When I am not shooting, I stay in my room watching comedy movies to improve on what I know.

“More so, I try not to repeat my jokes in order to stay relevant all the time. I have come to realise that Ghanaians want to hear something different from me so I make it my business to always learn new jokes to entertain them” he said.

Talking about his music career, Lil Win who has featured on Stay Jay’s Feelings, Guru’s Boys Abre  and now in the studio with Bisa Kdei said he loved to rap when he was young.

He explained that music was what he initially wanted to do but he found himself rather acting.

According to him, Ghanaians should watch out for his album come December this year.
