Lockdown is not the only effective way of combating COVID-19 – Gabby Otchere-Darko declares

Renowned private legal practitioner and a staunch senior member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko has opined that lockdowns are not the only effective means of fighting the novel Coronavirus as critics of President Akufo-Addo’s decision to lift the partial lockdown are alluding.

This reaction from the favourite cousin of the President is linked to varied commentaries that are ongoing following the President’s announcement of lifting the partial lockdown on Greater Accra and Kumasi via his 7th National Address yesterday.

“It is also important to stress that lockdown is by no means the only effective method of checking the spread of this virus. When to come out of a lockdown is also a judgment call based on several other factors but all such factors only come to play when viewed in the light of the science and data available. It is also important to stress that lockdown is by no means the only effective method of checking the spread of this virus. Some of the countries combating this pandemic more effectively than most countries, are not in a lockdown. They did all the other things we are doing, including aggressive contact tracing and testing and shunned lockdown,” Gabby Otchere Darko opined.
