Man recounts his boyhood shock on how a visitor chopped all the family fufu in minutes

As boys growing up, we all liked food a lot and so our fervent prayer in the evenings was to finish our bowl of food in peace before our parents got any unannounced visitors. Per the Ghanaian norm, children’s heavy foods such as banku, fufu or emo tuo (riceballs) are usually sacrificed for the unannounced visitor so that the child in question can have a different meal like rice, ampesie (plantain or yam) or at worst – “gari soakings”.

A social media user has shared his painful childhood experience when he was only 8 years old. In his short post, he recalled how a visitor visited impromptu and had to be served from the family’s evening meal that happened to be the biggest Ghanaian delicacy – fufu and light soup with chicken and other sumptuous meats. According to the guy, his mum served the visitor who initially commented on how heavy the food was. But within minutes he consumed everything and called for more to be “massacred”.

The guy admitted that he was very much overwhelmed at how the visitor chopped all his nuclear family’s evening fufu in just 10 minutes or so.

Did you ever lose your evening meal to unannounced visits as a child?
