Comic Martin Lawrence Returns to Sitcom TV?
It’s been nearly 15 years since funnyman Martin Lawrence has appeared on a regular television sitcom and CBS has decided that it’s time to bring “ole’ Marty Mar” back. The network has given Lawrence the green light for a new late-season comedy pilot, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Lawrence will star in a sitcom about a widowed blue-collar dad of two teens. Upon losing his job, Lawrence, a construction worker by trade, decides to venture out into a new profession — police work. He enrolls in police academy at the ripe old age of 46 and the shenanigans begin.
During the ’90′s, Lawrence’s hysterically funny Fox TV show, “Martin,” was a favorite in the homes of countless TV viewers and one of the highest rated programs on the network. Lawrence and cast members Tisha Campbell-Martin, Thomas Mikal Ford, Tichina Arnold and Carl Anthony Payne II had a winning formula that kept viewers coming back week after week. The show eventually lost steam when Lawrence and Campbell began feuding. Campbell filed a lawsuit against Lawrence and the show’s producers for sexual harassment and verbal and physical assaults. The suit was settled by HBO studios and Campbell-Martin agreed to complete the final season of the show as long as she and Lawrence did not have any scenes together.
Lawrence has since gone on to star in a number of blockbusters and comedies on the big screen. He has also had a highly publicized turbulent personal life that includes numerous arrests for erratic behavior.
The waters seemed to have calmed down over recent years for the comic, who has maintained a low profile and can oftentimes be seen showing off his three lovely young daughters at red carpet movie premieres.
