Mixed Reaction Greets Becca’s $50,000 Video Hype

The much talked about video, ‘No Away’ by Becca featuring M.I., have been receiving diverse feedbacks, as some fans and pundits see it as ‘total waste’ of money in connection with the final product, others vehemently disagree.

When news about the video ‘No Away’ as the celebrated musician reportedly forked out a whooping sum of $50, 000 left entertainment watchers and fans wondering what the much touted video entails.

The hue and cry that characterized the release of video, however, left this reporter with no option than to hit the streets of Accra, to sample opinions of industry pundits.

Whiles some categorically chastised management of the award winning artist for profligate expenditure on a single video, others argued on quality and not the amount involved.

“If she will spend billions and come out with something impressive then I have no qualms with that because in business one always have to hold onto quality”, a man who gave his name as Kwesi Asamoah, argued.

Mr. Asamoah proceeds to encourage Ghanaians to eschew unnecessary criticisms and rather offer their unflinching support to people who ascribe to quality.

Another respondent who gave his name as Ama echoed the views of Mr. Asamoah and insisted that it was high time we started embracing quality instead of shoddy works, stressing that Becca deserves commendations.

“The argument here is good work and not quantity. Becca’s video for me is of high standard and all of us need to appreciate it because good work they say comes with a cost,” Ama, 34, maintained.

But Nana Kwame, a music and movie critic disagreed, saying prudent management of funds is essential to sustaining artist in the music business. According to him, if careful analyses were made, Becca would have come out with equally good production without necessarily spending so much.

“Inasmuch as we strive to produce the best for our audience, it is important to economies whatever we do as people. Good work, I believe also comes with good economics and unnecessary spending so Becca’s expenditure was highly outrageous”, Nana Kwame added.

Charity Osei, a final year student of the University of Ghana, Legon sided with Nana, but seized the opportunity to advice Becca and her management to always work towards producing quality but must take into consideration the amount they invest.

Becca’s video, according to report, was supported by Kasapreko and shot in South Africa by one of the world’s best video directors, Brandon Oloefosn with one of the best sophisticated cameras.

From all gathered, the issue buries its head in the fact that the cause of the provocation from some fans are that either the money was lavishly thrown in the project or the hype was beyond its outcome.

Many expected that probably with such amount mentioned, ‘heaven’ should have been the location. The featured act should have probably being from planet Mars or Pluto, and many have argued that the finest of video directors can be found here in Ghana, so why and where from the ‘noise’ that welcomed the video? With the current state of Ghana as a country, coughing such amount was just exuberant, many have poured out.

As they say, ‘opinions are like noses, so everyone has one’, it is important we get reactions from those that have followed their celebrity from the days of their ‘garri and sugar’ to their present day of ‘fried rice and chicken’.

The questions will keep arising and someday answers will be giving but until then, I quiz, ‘can’t something good come out of Ghana’?
