MTN Culturefest 2013 rolls on

We are in the peak season for traditional festivals and from the southern parts of the country to the most northern territories, various celebrations are being held in remembrance of timeworn achievements and adversities while family reunions, development forums and reconciliation meetings also play major parts.
Some of the well-known festivals which have either just been celebrated or getting ready to take off soon are Ada Asafotufiami, Ga Homowo, Saltpond Odambea, Akwapim Odwira, Axim Kundum, Oguaa Fetu Afahye, Larteh Odwira , Essikado Kuntum, Anlo Hogbetsotso, Mamfe Ohum and Lawra Kobine.

The common factor about these festivals is that telecommunications giant, MTN supports and actively participates in them. The telecoms company has this year captured its participation in the various festivals under the term: MTN Culturefest 2013.

Essikado Kuntum and Ada Asafotufiami have already experienced the warm MTN connection and several others are also going to be touched as the Culturefest train rolls along.

‘For every festival, our platforms are music, football, health walk and a corporate social responsibility (CSR) activity. They are all, however, preceded by a donation which include cash, products and assorted drinks to the traditional council,’ said an official of the MTN events section.

MTN’s involvement with this year’s Asogli yam festival, for instance, starts on August 31 when it supports a keep-fit session and health walk to the famous Adaklu Mountain.

The event is expected to attract many people including the about 36 communities that surround the mountain and the hordes of tourists from far and near that regularly hike up the mountain.

The telecoms company will make an official donation to the Asogli state on September 13 and organise a community football gala on September 17 and 18.

MTN will set up a chill zone at the Mirage Pub at Ho SSNIT Housing Down for variety entertainment on September 20 and 21. There will be lots of music and patrons can participate in interactive SMS programmes to win MTN souvenirs.

For people in the Saltpond area in the Central Region, an MTN street jam is a key part of the Odambea festival. Audiences will see appearances by some of the most popular artistes in Ghana today including Stonebwoy, Keche, Nhyiraba Kojo, Stay Jay, Yaa Pono, D Cryme and Castro.

The MTN Rap competition is also expected to help unveil the musical talents in some of the youth in the Central Region.

‘Traditional festivals mean a lot to the people of Ghana. The people also mean a lot to us and that is why we are on board several of the festivals to contribute something useful to the societies,’ the MTN events section official said.
