‘MTN Heroes of Change’ on the move again

photosMany people watch television mainly for but most of those that caught the 13- part series called ‘MTN Heroes of Change' last year, realised that the fare definitely went beyond being a mere patchwork of moving pictures to amuse audiences.

It was inspiring to see and hear ordinary folks who had devoted their time, energy and resources to making the lives of others better.

Everyone was happy that some of the participants in the series won prizes to continue with the good work they were doing.

The awards were presented at a ceremony that featured brilliant artistes like Becca, , Steve Bedi, the El Dunamis Choir and poet, Chief Moomen.
With all the goodwill that the series attracted, it is not surprising that the MTN Foundation has decided to fund a repeat this year.

Mr Richard Alandu Achumboru, winner in the Economic Empowerment category, received GH¢10,000 to help him carry on with the good work he was doing in providing free training in sewing, weaving and other crafts for underprivileged folks at Sandema in the Upper East Region.

In a telephone chat with The Mirror, Mr Achumboru said he managed to acquire more sewing machines to augment what his FISTRAD outfit already had.
To him, an even bigger reward from the ‘MTN Heroes of Change' programme was the exposure he got for his work.

“Some of my partners abroad saw the series on television and read online stories that made them even more impressed with the FISTRAD project,” Mr Achumboru said.
Since participants in the programme are selected from public nominations, he urged the public to come out and let the world know about the people doing great things in their societies.

“I see ‘MTN Heroes of Change' as a good programme and the public must nominate people who must also be supported the media to propagate the good things they are doing for society,” Mr Achumboru pointed out.

Nominations for the current season are still open. The public is invited to make their nominations by either filling online nomination forms at heroes.mtn.com.gh, or picking forms at MTN service centres and returning them to the centres after filling.
