Music, Dance And Poetry At La Paillote Takpekpe

The second edition of La Paillote Takpekpe, which premiered last month, will on Wednesday February 22 take place at the Alliance Française in Accra with music, dance, drama, film and poetry.

Organized by the dynamic poet/painter Sir Black, the programme will feature Afrique Dance Ensemble, a group based at the WEB Dubois Centre in Accra.

The group will entertain guests with a variety of traditional and contemporary music and dance pieces.

Also on the bill is Kena Asare, who would showcase his recent compositions in a performance which will feature Sir Black. Open mic, free style and spontaneous acts would also form part of the items lined up for the evening.

Sir Black, Josh Woanyah, DK Osei Yaw, Crystal Tettey and other Ehalakasa poets will be on stage with poems that touch on various aspects of Ghanaian traditional and contemporary life in Ghana.

A short film featuring two Zimbabwean poets – Comrade Faatso and Outspoken would be screened while a 15-minute theatre piece would be enacted by students from the Ghanatta Senior High School in Dodowa.

Sir Black has over the years thrilled diverse audiences in Ghana, Europe and other African countries.

In October 2010, he joined several poets from other African countries to hold workshops for Danish students in several cities and towns in Denmark.

La Paillote Takpekpe is being sponsored by the French Institut and the Alliance Française in Accra.
