Musicians must join ‘Dumsor’ campaign – Barima Sidney

imagesHiplife Musician, Barima Sidney has called on musicians in the country to join the campaign against the current energy crisis launched by Ghanaian movie actresses.

Commenting on the effects of the power crisis on the job of lyricists in the country, the Apuskeleke singer said the crisis is having debilitating toll on their careers as ‘we have to always force and put down our lyrics before our generators go off and that is clearly not good for the job…”, he said.

Actresses Yvonne Nelson and Lydia Forson are leading campaign against ‘Dumsor’ which they have argued are leading to the collapse of the Ghanaian economy.

The hashtag #Dumsormustend is trending very well on social media platforms with several celebrities joining the campaign.

However, the lead campaigners, female actresses, Lydia Forson and Yvonne Nelson have been verbally attacked for championing the cause.

Former Aide to chief of staff, Halidu Haruna referred to them as ‘irresponsible’ and ‘Prostitutes’ hence their inability to get married after attaining the age of 30.

Another NDC communications team member, Dela Coffie in a latter facebook post also called on Lydia Forson to forget about succeeding in her campaign since ‘President Mahama would not take advice from a brothel.’

These attacks notwithstanding, the hiplife musician who is noted for composing political music including ‘African money’ said posterity would not forgive various artistes if they shut up on the negative happenings in the country.

“We all saw the impact of music in South Africa and elsewhere and I believe we should do same…we must never shut up on that…let’s sing against that…,” he urged on Accra-based Oman FM.

He continued that although people verbally abuse him after releasing various satirical songs, he said he is not moved by that ‘as I sing about the messages people give me….”

Sidney further revealed that persons who feel affected by his lyrics scheme to have him rejected at certain platforms.

“When I started, I nearly gave up on singing of political happenings entirely but I am now used to and care less about the reactions…,” he said.
