MUSIGA announces new membership fees

imagesThe national executive council of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has approved new fees for members of the union to take effect  from January 15.

At the last meeting held by the council, the second highest decision- making body of the union after congress, it was agreed that new rates should be introduced for MUSIGA’s members.

According to the president of MUSIGA, Bice Osei Kuffour, since MUSIGA is a member-based organisation that caters for the welfare of its members, it needed to charge realistic fees to enable it to provide meaningful services to members.

He added that three new categories of membership have also been introduced by the union in addition to the already existing Standard Membership category.

One of the new categories is Associate Member for students   interested in joining the union.

“These are students of institutions like School of Performing Arts, National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI), University of Education at Winneba and similar tertiary institutions offering music courses,” the MUSIGA president said.

Next is the Professional category  which is similar to the Fellows category of other professional bodies. This category will cater for a certain level of professional musician and comes with a set of benefits.

The final new category is the MUSIGA Partner for individuals or organisations who do not work directly in the music industry but are interested in associating with the Union.

The new categories will be officially unveiled at the annual retreat for the union’s leadership in Koforidua on Thursday, January 15.

With the introduction of the new rates, Standard membership will attract a new registration fee of GH¢ 54 and yearly dues of GH¢ 120. The Professional category has GH¢100 for new registration and  annual dues of GH¢480.

The new registration rate for Partner category is GH¢40  with yearly dues of GH¢ 720. For Student membership, new registration attracts GH¢ 30 and there’s an annual fee of GH¢ 60.
