MUSIGA Condemn Kuborlor After Defending Raquel

After defending singer Raquel for refusing to put on pants and exposed her sex organ live on stage, the umbrella body for musicians in Ghana the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) have condemn a similar act by another musician Wanlov De Kuborlor.

Ghanaians have condemned WanLov Da Kubolor for showing his manhood on TV (either censored or uncensored) and also violently rubbished female singer Raquel for her indecent exposure which took place few months ago.

However, the Musicians Union of Ghana has resulted to absurd polities, hypocrisy and discrimination concerning the way and manner it has handled these two unfortunate happenings.

When licentious Raquel’s indecent exposure issue came up, MUSIGA supported her, issued statements in support of her (calling it a mere mistake), conjured defences for her on radio, and even went as far as lobbying with various media outlets to prevent the publication of the photos.

If you care to know, when GhanaCelebrities.Com recently published Raquel’s photos, I was slammed with several calls from high standing members of MUSIGA who asked for the photos to be removed and content pulled down. I am glad I did not do as they lobbied, and this is because they do not have a fair standing on how they treat their members.

If MUSIGA could not openly condemn or rebuke Raquel and enforce sanctions against her, why are they out there making a mockery of our discrimination laws by condemning WanLov for an equal offence or probably even a lesser offence compared to what Raquel did?

In the midst of WanLov & Delay’s controversy, MUSIGA has come out to strongly condemn WanLov Da Kubolor and also throw blames at Delay for failing to edit the part of the video where Kubolor showed his manhood.

Prejudice or discrimination based on sex is legally termed as sexism; this is a practice which vividly undermines the fundamental principles of equal rights and equal treatment.

Article 17 of the constitution of Ghana guarantees the right to freedom from discrimination, which means that, no persons or bodies can discriminate against any person based on their sex, origin, beliefs, race, etc.

Article 17 therefore prohibits treating people differently because of their sex and it requires that, bodies such as the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) MUST treat all their members equally no matter their sex.

Sex discrimination/Sexism is not only forbidden under the Ghanaian constitution, it is also an illegality under the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, ratified by Ghana in 1989 which affirms the principle of equality of all people.

Article 2 of the same Charter expressly guarantees the right to freedom from discrimination, article 3 also guarantees equality before the law and article 26 outlines the duty of all individuals and bodies not to discriminate.
