Musiga to honour three at Grand Ball

The National Executive Council of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) and the Executive Board of the MUSIGA Grand Ball 2015 have decided to honour three personalities at the union’s Grand Ball tonight, September 4, in recognition of their contributions to the development of the music industry in Ghana. The personalities are: Apostle Kojo Safo Kantanka, Dr Kwabena Duffuor and Dr Ernest Ofori Sarpong. Each of them will receive the Music Industry Pillar Award.

The MUSIGA Grand Ball is an annual fund-raising event in support of the union’s Ageing Musicians Welfare Fund (AMWeF) and the MUSIGA Academy.

Artistes scheduled to perform at the Grand Ball tonight are: Obuoba J.A. Adofo, Bob Pinodo,  Paapa Yankson, Rex Omar, Gasmilla, Bisa K Dei, Becca, Bessa Simons, Gifty Osei, Celestine Donkor and Philipa Baafi.

A statement from MUSIGA indicated that Apostle Kojo Safo Kantanka, who is the head of the Kristo Asafo Church, is a great lover of music.

“As a music enthusiast, he started manufacturing musical instruments at an early stage in his life. He built loud speakers, professional mixing consoles and the seven-string bass guitar.

“His outfit also partnered MUSIGA and the Midland Savings and Loans Company to present a vehicle to the winner of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards Gospel Artiste of the Year,”  MUSIGA pointed out.

Dr Kwabena Duffuor is the founder and senior advisor to HODA Holdings Limited, an entity with over 15 business enterprises in insurance, banking, real estate, farming and the media. Among his numerous business concerns are Starr, Kasapa and Live FM radio stations in Accra and Ultimate FM in Kumasi.

“As the Minister of Finance in the government of  the late Professor Atta Mills, Dr Kwabena Duffuor contributed significantly to the development of MUSIGA and the music industry at large,” MUSIGA’s statement indicated.

The third honouree is Dr Ernest Ofori Sarpong, a businessman. He is the Chief Executive Officer of Sarpong Ventures, an import  and trading concern, as well as Special Investments, a real estate and construction business and Special Ice Mineral Water.

The MUSIGA Grand Ball 2015 is sponsored by Unibank, Star Assurance and Ideal Finance with support from the Office of the President.
