MUSIGA vets aspirants for national officer positions

imagesThe Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) is vetting aspirants for its upcoming elections in October.

The vetting Thursday at the MUSIGA Headquarters in Accra is part processes to select new executives to man the affairs of the musicians’ body for the next four years.

MUSIGA goes to the polls on October 29 in Koforidua in the Eastern region to elect new executives, including a president.

So far, over 35 people have picked up forms to contest the seven positions available.

The positions up for contest are the President, First Vice President, Second Vice President, General Secretary, Treasurer, National Organiser and National Welfare Officer.

The Elections Committee of MUSIGA is vetting aspirants for the various positions.

The vetting process, according to chairman of the vetting committee, Ben Brako, was rescheduled to come off from September 10, 2015 to Thursday, September 17 to give the association adequate time to prepare for the exercise.

Ben Brako gave the explanation during an interview with Black I on the Daybreak Hitz (Showbiz Review) on Hitz FM.

When asked what the committee is expecting from the contestants, Ben said, “basically, we need to ensure that the people who are standing for office are adequately informed and prepared.”

“We need to make sure they meet all the requirements of the constitution of MUSIGA,” he added

He continued that, “It’s not up to us to decide who is going to be in what office but to make sure that the candidate aspiring for the office fulfils the terms and conditions that are required by the constitution.”

In the presidential race, Appiah Dankwa (Appietus) and Gyedu Blay Ambolley have both filed their nominations to contest incumbent Bice Osei Kuffour (Obour).

For the First and Second Vice Presidency and Treasurer, Bessa Simons, Rev. Thomas Yawson and Samuel Kofi Agyemang are running unopposed. The General Secretary, Deborah Freeman who is the incumbent, is also going unopposed.

For the National Welfare Officer, Pastor Kwesi Duah, Benedict Kolan and Sylvia Amponsah Bosompem are the contestants and Ras Caleb Appiah-Levi is contesting the incumbent Chizzy Wailer for the National Organiser position.
