MUSIGA’s unending drama: B/A Regional Organizer also resigns

262382377_314131The Bono Ahafo Regional Organizer of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Augustus Brenya-Boateng, has resigned from his position with immediate effect.

Not only that, he has abandoned his membership of the musicians’ body entirely.

Mr Brenya-Boateng in a resignation letter sent to MUSIGA and intercepted by Myjoyonline.com faulted the musicians’ body for failing to cater for his welfare as a member of the Union.

He said he does not see “the importance of me being an active member and as a regional executive.”

According to him, “the management of MUSIGA [is] not ready to help me as a song writer and a composer and have chosen to hide things from us the union members…”

He accused the national executive of failing to provide adequate answers to questions bordering on financial accountability.

Mr Brenya-Boateng announced that he has, therefore, defected from MUSIGA to the Musicians and Dancers Association of Ghana (MUDAG) with the hope that its “organized structures will polish the music and dancing industry and help most of us realize our dreams.”

Last week, the Bono Ahafo Regional Secretary of the MUSIGA Israel Boakye resigned from his position accusing the musicians’ body of not seeking the welfare of its members.

According to him, the aims and objectives of MUSIGA require the union “to protect the creative and performing rights of all Musicians in the country, and to cater for the welfare of the retired Musicians,” something the musicians’ body has failed to do.

Israel Boakye noted that, “it seems all MUSIGA programmes and activities are centered in Greater Accra which is not the only region in Ghana as a country. Unpopular musicians do not get any benefit from the union, not talking of the musicians at the remote areas,” and added that during his tenure, he has never heard of any donation to any retired musician in the region.

He concluded that, as he resigns from his position and the musicians union, he hopes to “find another Association who shall see my worth and value as a member.”

Mr Brenya-Boateng and Israel Boakye’s resignations are coming after some members of MUSIGA in the Central region defected from the union accusing the musicians’ body of neglecting them.

The members, who call themselves Concerned Members of MUSIGA in the region, expressed their displeasure at the failure of the national executives to address several challenges facing them.

The concerned members in a statement signed by their Press Secretary, Oti Faaben Kakra and copied Myjoyonline.com Friday, August 2, announced their defection from MUSIGA to the Musicians and Dancers Association of Ghana (MUDAG).
