My ‘badmouthing ‘pushed me into comedy – Koboko Master


In an interview with Daily Post, the veteran comedian Koboko Master explained his journey into the comedy world. He claims his bad mouthing pushed him into comedy shows.

“Comedy has always been a part of me; I grew up in a large family of about 110 grandchildren so in such house you expect to have the good, the bad and the ugly. My brother and I chose to be funny. We used to have these ‘bad mouths’ and we never knew that it was going to be so good at some point. Right now it is paying off and we thank God for it” he said.
He explained in 2009 he was doing comedy for money in Maraba, Nasarawa State. He said, whenever he was in a public transport and there was traffic he cracks jokes to make passengers laugh to stop them from complaining. While he does that, people encourage him to join AY, Basket mouth e.t.c as he had a talent.
In 2008-2009, he auditioned for Charly Boy ‘make yarn’; it was an event that was done with high list celebrities like Ruggedman, Feliz Duke, 2shot. It was organized to discuss Nigerian Youths and the way forward. That was his first audition and Charly boy made it clear he liked his performance.
With Charly boys’ encouragement, he felt it was an endorsement and when he came for the event he dressed up nice, performed and had a great show. He explained after the performance it has been glorious all the way till now.
When asked if he belongs to a family in the comedy industry since Nigerian comedy industries seems to be divided into families, he answered he has not joined any clique in the industry.
He explained comedy now has its genre and due to his style of comedy, his best person in the industry is Acapella because he is a critical thinker.
