My wife has been a strong pillar in my life – Stephen Appiah

Former captain of the Black Stars Stephen Appiah has revealed that he has known his wife for 20 years.

According to him, his wife has been a strong pillar behind his success in football.

The 34-year-old retiring footballer told Accra-based TV3 Wednesday that he never took any decision concerning his career without consulting his wife.

“I told the team manager of Juventus that I will sign for them but they should leave me to talk to my wife because you have to take your wife where she will love and you need to think about the kids.

“So I went back home, that time my wife was in Ghana so I called her on the phone and we talked. She said ‘everywhere you go, we will follow you but take a good decision’.

“She has, of course, been supportive all this years; 20 years knowing her and we are still going strong,” he stated.

The former Fenerbahçe player will on Saturday June 27, 2015 play a testimonial match to officially end his career.

He captained the Black Stars at their World Cup debut in 2006 and was a member of the 2010 World Cup squad.
