Nam1 finally granted bail???

Persons who have pledged to take responsibility if Menzgold Ghana Limited CEO, Nana Appiah Mensah (NAM1), fails to show up in court to stand trial will no longer show evidence of owning properties worth 1 billion cedis.

This is according to a ruling by an Accra Circuit Court on Tuesday.

The decision follows an application by his lawyers describing the bail sum as impossible to meet.

Nana Appiah Mensah’s counsel Kwame Akuffo urged the court to fix the sum at 5 million cedis.

The court presided over by Jane Harriet Akweley Quaye, on July 26 granted bail to the embattled CEO of Menzgold in the sum of ¢1 billion, with five sureties and three to be justified.

This means the three sureties were required to collectively show evidence of owning properties worth that amount.

Nana Appiah Mensah was unable to meet the bail conditions and has since remained in custody. This compelled his lawyers to pray to the court for a downward review to 5 million cedis.

Though state’s prosecutor, ASP Sylvester Asare did not oppose the application,  he asked the court to decide the sum and not allow Defence lawyers to decide.

The court therefore ruled that the sureties are no longer to be justified but the amount remained same at 1 billion cedis. He is also to report himself to the Ghana Police Service every Wednesday.

Nana Appiah Mensah is in court for allegedly defrauding about 16,000 people of more than GH¢1.6 billion.
