Nangdibia writes: Politics is a good thing

Politics is a good thing; let’s not make the mistake of thinking politics is a bad thing. Those who hold the view as if politics is bad probably don’t appreciate the concept of politics or clearly want to box the negative behaviors of some political actors into politics itself — there must be crestal clear distinction between “what is” and “what should be”.

Even in Heaven, I believe there is politics — so it has being from the beginning until now; and, this is biblically supported by the Bible’s own account of what ensued in Heaven in the book of Genesis. Is there no politics within our religious institutions even as of today ? Thus, we can disagree with how some characters from among us misbehave in society when they get opportunity to serve humanity or disagree with how flawed the processes leading to gaining political power have become, that not withstanding, politics in itself is not necessarily bad. Can we say politics doesn’t exist even at the family level — nuclear or extended ? Importantly, what can we do to clean up our politics? By staying away and to end up lamenting about poor leadership and bad governance ?

If “good”people say, oh our politics is a dirty game, I wonder how it will ever get better or clean by merely staying away. Who will clean the dirt in our politics? Let’s be very careful to not stay away from ensuring that we demand the decent living conditions that we deserve as a people because those who are willing to risk being dirty may end up making decisions that may even compromise our religious faith — can you imagine that ?

Therefore, we must muster the courage to speak up against bad political regimes and be magnanimous enough to commend good governance irrespective of one’s ideological underpining. Unfortunately, hypocrisy is the order of the day. How so? Some people pretend to stay away from politics because they are not sure to stand the heat and not the “favors” from politicians therein, but really, should there even be the need for the heat if everyone will do the right thing in the first place? Obviously not everyone should be into main stream politics, however in this country, what’s everyone’s contribution to what politics should be ? How should we be governed ? Are you quiet, speaking up or commending because of fear or favor?

Ah well, we can do better; and, make sure if we think politics is bad and dirty, we get involved to clean it up for God and country.
