The controversial trends that surrounded the Black Stars captaincy in Ghana which became a major concern to many football lovers may be warming up back to the discussion table.
In actual sense, that wasn’t the only time two players (Asamoah Gyan and Dede Ayew) had a fracas over captaincy issues. There was another infamous captaincy feud that reportedly existed between former Olympique Marseille forward – Abedi Ayew Pele and Anthony Yeboah who formerly captained German Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt which was believed by many as the reason for Ghana losing to Côte d’Ivoire in Senegal 1992 AFCON final.
This isn’t the only example that the Ghana Football Association archives can cite. Many Ghanaians believe Former Coach Akwasi Appiah miscalculated his action of giving the captain arms band to Dede Ayew ahead of Asamoah Gyan in his last managerial role.
What has prompted this captaincy issue even with no National Footballing situation happening now?
Well, according to the eldest brother in the Ayew family — Rahim Ayew, his junior brother Jordan Ayew should inherit Black Stars captaincy from Andre Ayew. This was revealed by Rahim Ayew in an interview he granted yesterday. Rahim Ayew was asked about the future of Jordan Ayew after he took three awards at Crystal Palace from the just ended 2019/2020 English Premier League season.
This response from Rahim Ayew has infuriated many social media users who feel that the Ayew family are taking the Black Stars captaincy as a family property. As a result of how abusive some of the comments are — screenshots can’t be uploaded on our website.
Do you think Rahim Ayew has a case or he’s being greedy as some netizens are opining?
