 The National Theatre of Ghana has announced the appointment of Dr Agyeman Ossei and Mrs Amy Frimpong as acting Executive Director and Deputy Executive Director (Artistic) respectively for the Theatre.
A statement from from the Director of Administration of the National Theatre indicated that Dr Ossei, who is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Theatre Arts, University of Ghana, Legon and member of the National Theatre Board, assumed work as the acting Executive Director last April.
Dr. Ossei holds a PhD in African Art History from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and has several research papers and publications in academic journals to his credit. He occupied the post of Artistic Director of Abibigromma, the resident theatre company of the University of Ghana from 2005 to 2009.
“Dr. Ossei’s worth of experience in academic, practical live stage and televised productions is expected to play a pivotal role in the development of institutions linkages and mutually beneficial relationships between the National Theatre of Ghana and other artistic and cultural institutions in Ghana and aboard,” the statement said.
Mrs Amy Frimpong’s appointment as Deputy Executive Director (Artistic) took effect from the beginning of this month. She holds a Masters degree in Arts Administration from St Mary’s University in Winona, Minnesota.
Prior to her appointment, Mrs Frimpong worked in the United States as the Senior Programme Officer for the Minnesota State Arts Board, a state-funded agency responsible for the creation, performance and appreciation of the arts in the state.
In the last twelve years, she designed arts programming for Minnesota, focusing on enhancing artistic quality for artists and arts organizations and reaching all Minnesotans regardless of their economic, racial, gender, age and cultural backgrounds or geographic location.
Her work in the arts begun in Ghana over 25 years ago, as one of the core members of Abbibigromma. She played lead roles in several stage productions and in films such as Aya Minnow, directed by T A Daniels and Kukurantumi- Road to Accra directed by King Ampaw.
She also represented Ghana at various international arts fora including the Edinburgh Arts Festival and the International Arts Festival in Moscow.
Her vision for the National Theatre is to foster the creative community of artists and organizations through a range of initiatives focused on promoting both artistic excellence and better understanding of all art forms. |
