Nigerians take a swipe at D’banj for changing his name
Barely a month after he parted ways with his longtime friend and business partner, D'banj, born Dapo Oyebanjo has changed his name to Daniel Banjo.
It is unclear the reason behind the name change but the move has received a lot of flak from Nigerians who see it as a betrayal of his nigerian identity.
The Mo'Hits ‘founder' initially had on his twitter handle the name Dapo D'Banj Oyebanjo, but now has the new name Daniel D'Banj Banjo.
Several comments on websites concerning the change of name hit hard at the G.O.O.D Music artiste with many associating the change to his current association with American rapper and owner of G.O.O.D Music, Kanye West.
While many said there was nothing wrong with one changing his or her name, others argued and alleged that D'Banj changed his name to enable him fit in into his new label and also impress his American fans.
The 2011 BET Awards best International Act recipient received widespread backlash after his split with Don Jazzy, after working together for nine years, due to a ‘tussle' over the ownership of Mo'Hits Records.
Some commentators have attributed the artiste's recent decisions to his obsession with fame on the international stage, cautioning that it could lead to his downfall if he does not take care.
