October 20 has been declared as Lupita Nyong’o day in Harlem, New York

Oscar award-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o has added another feather to her cap by having a day dedicated to her in a New York City neighbourhood.

The Kenyan actress, who has been in the limelight after the release of the eagerly awaited Star Wars trailer, announced on Instagram that October 20 had been declared Lupita Nyong’o Day in Harlem.

The day was dedicated to her by US Representative for New York’s 13th congressional district congressman Charles Rangel.

Harlem is a neighborhood within New York City that since the 1920s has been known as a major African-American residential, cultural and business centre.
