Okyeame Kwame’s album launch, a truly Made-In-Ghana show

Hiplife musician, Okyeame Kwame has been on a campaign to get Ghanaians to appreciate their culture and regain their national pride.

At the +233 Jazz Bar and Grill on Saturday, March 20, he walked the talk at the launch of his Highlife album Made In Ghana.

The launch was a display of rich Ghanaian culture; from the stage to costumes for Okyeame Kwame himself, his backing vocalists, guest artistes, MC, ushers to even the album’s packaging and they all lit up the atmosphere at the +233 Jazz Bar and Grill.

The event kicked off with a performance by the Nsroma Dance Group who welcomed patrons to the venue with traditional songs and dances after which the MC for the night, Earl Ankrah took over.

He introduced the man of the night, Okyeame Kwame who came in with his Mr Versatile song and that set the tone for a night to remember for patrons. 

His rap flow and how he took his time to drop the words in the song one after the other caught the attention of everyone and earned him huge loud cheers.

Talking about the Made In Ghana album, Okyeame Kwame said it was a deliberate action to feature artistes from the 10 regions on the tracks adding that Ghana was blessed with too much talent and he needed that on his album.

“Ghana is blessed with a lot and we are all one people so I figured if there are artistes from the 10 regions who are doing amazingly well, why not work with them and today we are here.”

When asked by the MC what the launch meant to him as it was also a birthday celebration for him, he answered, “As an artiste, as a musician, as a person and since my 22 years in the music industry, today is the greatest day of my life.”

Okyeame then followed up his performance with Afriyie of Wutah fame and they performed the song Bra, after which Afriyie also performed some of Wutah’s songs.

Kuami Eugene, who featured on the song, E No Be My Matter was up next and he also performed some of his tracks.

Feli Nuna collaborated with Okyeame Kwame on his track Melowo and she was on hand to spice things up with an Agbadza dance which was enjoyable. Wiyaala and King Ralph performed Dia Tina with the Rap Dacta and it quite the energetic session.

There were also wonderful performances by KiDi, Ayesem, Wiyaala, Trigmatic and Abiana.

Chairman for the occasion, Kwame Baah-Acheamfuor, bought 16 copies of the Made In Ghana album at  GH¢16,000.

In all, the seven-hour programme was a totally enjoyable one and Okyeame Kwame reinforced why he is one of the forces to be reckoned with in the music industry.
