(Opinion): Ghanaians Do Not Trust Anyone – EC Official Reveals

The Dec 7 elections are over and both the Parliamentary Candidates and the Presidential Candidates have known their stance. The conspiracy theories flying all over the internet are enormous and most people seem to have aligned themselves to either the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) or the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC). Whilst others are urging on the NDC to go to court like the NPP did in 2012, some people feel that their case is dead on arrival. Perhaps, people think that “Karma” may be at work when the NDC go to court.

There are even people who have googled the names of justices of the Supreme Court and the Presidents who appointed them. This is in a way pointing to the fact that these justices who have been appointed by the sitting president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo may be ‘loyal’ to him if the NDC goes to court.

Well, in the face of all these deliberations, Dr. Bosman, a Deputy Electoral Commissioner has said that Ghanaians have trust issues and he isn’t surprised about the various speculations.

The EC top man was speaking to Samson Lardy’s panelists on News File last Saturday when he was quizzed about his take on why the NDC isn’t trusting the declaration of the electoral polls from the Jean Mensah-led EC.

According to Dr. Serebour, both the NPP and the NDC have all doubted the EC, the media and other state institutions in the past depending on the circumstances at hand and so he isn’t surprised that the flagbearer of the NDC is refusing to accept the declared results.
