(OPINION): What Led To The Current Skirmishes In The Volta Region By The Western Togolanders

Armed men demanding the secession of Western Togoland from Ghana blockaded major entry points to the Volta Region of Ghana on Friday morning. This comes after the group, Homeland Study Foundation declared the independence of the Western Togoland from Ghana a few months ago. 

From my own perspective, the cause of their actions can be divided into 3 phases.

1 The remote cause: They believe they were forced into the modern-day Ghana. If you study the results from the plebiscite you would realize that the majority of the votes from Ho and Kpando were against joining the modern-day Ghana. So they still feel that they were forced to join by the simple majority vote cast.

2 The Immediate Cause: They believe that they have been marginalized for so long in terms of political and socio_ economic developments.

3 The Trigger factor. The alleged intimidations that was recorded in the volta region during the just ended voter registration. They use that one to justify formal claims and beliefs. My humble take.
