Police Summons Choice FM Presenter

A source at the station, owned by NPP National Vice Chairman Fred Oware, confirmed receipt of the CID summons, explaining that the security agents claimed that the presenter moderated a programme which was inciting in nature.

The Dome/Kwabenya outdoor programme, which saw a turnout of many aggrieved persons pour their hearts out over what for them was a discredited December 7 polls, launched the movement onto the political terrain.

Their Koforidua programme was also mired in controversy, following the last minute withdrawal of permission by the police for them to organize the programme, a situation which unnerved the leadership. Eventually, the police rescinded their decision following the point raised by the organizers that the programme was an indoor activity and could not breach the peace.

Ms. Hessey’s invitation to the station, characteristic of such summons, is said to assist the police in their investigations. Some members of the Let My Vote Count were earlier invited by the Madina Police Divisional Command. The invitation’s import turned controversial shortly after the departure of the gentlemen.

While the police claimed they were on bail, being suspects for organizing an outdoor programme without informing them, their lawyer, Gabby Otchere-Darko, denied that his clients were on bail since they were not, in the first place, arrested and charged with any offence.

The Choice FM presenter is host of the station’s ‘Di Wo Fie Asem’ programme, which is widely patronized by listeners.

The Let My Vote Count movement was spawned by the December 7 polls, currently the subject of a Supreme Court petition.

The convener of the movement, Kwabena Bomfeh alias Kabila, has pointed out that the movement was formed in reaction to what he described as an adverse election which should be addressed by all Ghanaians.

The members, he added, were law-abiding citizens who sought the rectification of all that was wrong with the polls.

At the time of filing this report, the radio presenter was on duty at the Let My Vote Count outdoor activity at Cape Coast where, as usual, a platform was offered for those aggrieved by the outcome of the polls to express their umbrage.
