President Akufo Addo donates his monthly salaries to support the fight of COVID-19

President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has dashed out his three months salaries as seed money to a yet to be established fund to help subdue the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic.

“I have directed the Controller and Accountant General to pay my April, May, and June salaries to a special fund that would receive donations from philanthropists to help fight the outbreak,” the President said in a televised speech on Friday.

The move, the President added, would “support the efforts being undertaken to confront, contain, and combat coronavirus”.

This is not the first time President Akufo-Addo has donated his salary to support a national course.

The President in 2018 donated his November salary of GHC29,000.00 to the Korle Reconstructive Plastic Surgery Fund as part of his contribution to resourcing the Fund to assist Ghanaians who may require plastic surgery.

We hope this would serve as an intrinsic motivation to other affluent persons to also contribute their quota in fighting the invisible enemy on the loose.
