After reports that the NDC senior executives have settled on Hon. Eric Opoku as the running mate, Ghana’s former High Commissioner to the United Kingdom – Victor Smith has hinted that ex-president John Dramani Mahama’s running mate will be an Akan.
In an exclusive interview with one of the renowned media outlets, the NDC guru revealed that since the Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress – John Dramani Mahama is from a minority ethnic group in Ghana, he is quite sure the flagbearer will pick an Akan to complement his chances of winning the 2020 elections.
He had this to say:
“It takes to be controversial when you drop any hint. It just happens that our flagbearer is from the Northern Region. I think looking at the political history of our country, we’ve so far had a situation where no two minority ethnic groups have formed the ticket. So I think it may be [that] since president Mahama comes from a minority ethnic group vis-a-vis the Akan population, ideally, I think the person might be an Akan.”
