Put Your Certificates Aside And Hustle For Money – Counsellor Admonishes Ghanaian Youths

According to a seasoned counsellor identified as Jeremiah Boateng, it is better to put aside certificates so that one can do all the odd jobs for the cash instead of relying on degrees or masters for a befitting job opportunity.

Counsellor Jeremiah wrote;

***Just saw the car washer in my neighbourhood washing cars 15 minutes ago. Yes, at 12 midnight. I was so impressed. That guy washes cars all day. One of the problems with some of us with a lot of education or white collar schooling is that we have a sense of entitlement. We think we deserve to succeed without a lot of hustle and sacrifice.

We believe we should make a lot of money without putting in a lot of effort because we have a degree. We want a job that pays well but we don’t have to do so much work in that job. I see that in the manner and tone of those we interview and/hire. Life must be easy because we went to Accra Legon or the Kumasi version.

Yesterday, I met Solomon who has a degree in banking and finance from UPSA, is studying for ACCA and sells secondhand clothing on his arms during the day, hawking on the hot sun. He told me in impeccable English that he makes about 2400 cedis in profit every month. He has mates who have been home for a couple of years without jobs, hoping to find some that “befits their degree”.

In our own country, we relax and expect that our degrees will build the future. But we travel to other economies and break our backs because we want to return to Ghana and be seen as successful. We need to rethink, youth of Ghana. Rethink.
