Roro Slams Shatta Wale For Producing Poor Quality Music

4530535_281624Hallowed Ghanaian recording engineer, Roland Ackah aka Roro has told show host Kwame Dadzie on ‘Arts People' on Koforidua-based Vision 90.9FM that sounds of songs produced by dancehall artiste cum recording engineer are of poor quality.

According to Roro who has been in the business for about ten years, Shata Wale like most engineers in Ghana, is doing quite well in producing songs but technically his songs don't have good sound.

“I can say we are doing well as engineers but are not learning the work well. They produce the beats alright but they have problems mixing and mastering of the sound. If you take someone like Shatta Wale for instance, the sounds of his songs are of poor quality,” he said.

He added that while he took time to learn from veterans like Zapp Mallet, most of the new sound engineers or music producers springing up think the work is all about Fruity Loops software so they get the software and in haste, they create beats for musicians who patronize their services.

“Everything you want to do, you need to learn and learn it well. I listen to great producers like Zapp Mallet just to make sure I learn something from him. There are most songs I produced that people didn't know I did them because I didn't append my signature . Till now, most people don't know I recorded Isaac's ‘Me Da a Na Ma Da,” Paa Solo's “Sisi Na Adie Wom” which Samini and others. This is because I try to vary my style not to sound always the same,” he added.

Roro advised that up and coming engineers learn how to play musical instruments because that will help them play good notes for songs that they record. He said they should take their time in producing quality sounds for their clients and not be in a rush because at the end of the day, what they create is a record that must live on after generations.

Shatta Wale is undoubtedly the most Ghanaian today and he keeps producing songs every day. Could his rush in doing his songs be a reason why a celebrated sound engineer like Roro is raising this concern or he is just not cut for the job of sound engineer? Flex newspaper leaves you to mull over this and get answers to them.
