Sammy Gyamfi Released On Bail

National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress Sammy Gyamfi has been released by the police barely five hours of his arrest.

Sources close to Peacefmonline.com disclosed that he was granted a self recognizance bail.

He is, however, expected to report to the Police CID headquarters once a week.

National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress, Sammy Gyamfi, was picked up by officials of the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) this morning.

The “arrest” occurred minutes after he participated in a live studio discussion on UTV‘s “Adekye Nsroma” morning show.

The NDC National Communications Officer was whisked away by some plain-clothed security officers in a white unmarked pick-up vehicle with license plate VR 4870 – 12.

Just as the outspoken NDC stalwart was making his way to board his vehicle after the show had ended, the CID officers suddenly surfaced, produced a warrant and in a flash, picked him away.

Some high profile lawyers and personalities of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) thronged to the Headquarters of the CID, following news of the arrest of the party’s National Communications Officer.

Lawyers numbering more than seven (7) were also at the police CID Headquarters to demand his release.

The Police in December invited Mr. Gyamfi to respond to allegations of cybercrime leveled against him by an unnamed person in the Jubilee House.

However, reports say, Mr. Gyamfi declined the invitation by the CID and later through his lawyers sued to stop the police from examining his phone records and gaining access to his Facebook account.

The suit, filed at the Accra High Court among other things sought an injunction on an earlier court warrant by the Kaneshi District Court for the seizure of his electronic gadgets.

Mr. Gyamfi argued that the police “failed to establish any legal basis to have access to the Applicant’s phone records when it failed to show any probable cause that the Applicant has or is about to commit the alleged crime to justify the revocation of the Applicant’s right to privacy and the protection of same.”
