The Gospel According To Christian Music

imagesIn Ghana most gospel musicians are very unprofessional and need to work harder and put more skill into their output. Most of them sing songs in church rendering service to God and the next thing you know they have recorded their album and marketing it in church for their church members to buy. Ghanaians are very religious and will support most of these unskilled people who enter into the music industry. They don’t put much effort into their work and it comes out ordinarily and worse of all most of them are more about the little money they get.
When did Gods work become business? I heard an interview on Adom fm with a gospel musician and she said she takes money for her ministration and went further explained that it’s a give and take affair. She blesses you with her music and you also bless her financially. What happened to being selfless and serving God whole heartedly? As a Christian you want to be paid for leading people into worship and praising God. How weird can it get with these artiste and their songs?
Another is their desire to win awards in the industry. Most of them don’t deserve awards but it’s amazing how much they look up to it. Christians reward is in heaven so why do you have to be so bent on winning an award that when they don’t win it becomes news.
The last is the way they flaunt themselves in music videos doing cover songs. When will they learn to wait on the lord and be inspired to write their songs? Enough of taking other people’s inspired songs and re brand it. If you can’t wait on God please go and find some poets who can give good lyrics and produce some inspiring music. The cover songs are too much and the rush to fame is too obvious. Is it Gods work or business? If John Wesley was doing cover songs whose song will you cover. The annoying part is they don’t even bother to acknowledge where they got the songs and appreciate it as a cover song. If you want to do business then divert on Gospel even those doing secular music do a better job.
Nevertheless there are some dedicated people who don’t mind doing God’s work selflessly and earned respect over the years. They might not have received any award but they have affected more lives and impacted the word of God.
